Efonipidine

Hypertension, renal parenchymal hypertension 20 to 40 mg of efonidipine hydrochloride ethanol adduct is orally administered in 1 to 2 divided doses daily. The dose may be adjusted according to the patient’s age and symptoms. Even if a sufficient antihypertensive effect cannot be obtained, the maximum daily dose should be up to 60 mg. Angina The usual adult dosage is 40 mg of efonidipine hydrochloride ethanol adduct given orally once daily (after meals).
The common side effects are hot flushes, facial flushing and headache. In addition, elevation in serum total cholesterol, ALT (SGPT), AST (SGOT) and BUN may occur. Frequent urination, pedal edema, increased triglycerides occurs in l ess than 0.1%. Lesser incidence of pedal edema (< 0.1%)
By binding to the membrane potential-dependent Ca channel of the cell membrane, Efonidipine suppresses the influx of Ca into the cell and dilates coronary and peripheral blood vessels
T Max: 1.4 to 2.2 hours Half Life: 2 hours
Pregnancy: Do not administer to pregnant women or women who may be pregnant. Lactation:It is desirable to avoid administration to lactating women, but if it is unavoidable, avoid lactation.
Efonidipine: Hepatic Dysfunction:Patients with severe liver dysfunction [Blood levels may increase].
Paediatric use: Safety has not been established for low birth weight infants, newborns, infants, toddlers or children.
In the elderly, the drug should be carefully administered while observing the patient’s condition, such as starting administration from a lowdose (20 mg / day). [Generally, excessive pressure reduction is not preferable.] If excessive antihypertensive effect or side effects are observed, take measures such as halving the dose.
